Some people know they don’t like dogs and some people know they don’t like cats. If you have never spent a significant amount of time around either than making the decision of which furry friend to get can be tough. Cats and dogs are very different and either can change your life dramatically.

Here are a few tips to consider when trying to make your decision.

Your personality

The personality of the pet owner is usually a good indicator of what kind of pet they own. Cats and dogs have very different personalities and need an owner that can either keep up or allow them to have their space. Dogs are more hyper than cats. Cats are more stubborn than dogs. Dogs require more human interaction than cats. Cats need a calmer environment than dogs. If you are an extremely outgoing adventure seeking always on the go kind of person than you will most likely do better with a dog. If you are the type of person that likes to relax and enjoy life slowly than you will most likely enjoy having a cat.

Kittens and puppies

Baby cats and baby dogs are extremely different. Most people when getting a pet want a baby. If you are one of those people here is what you can expect. Puppies are a lot more work than kittens but are also a lot more fun. Puppies have tons of energy and need lots of playtime. Puppies are also extremely cuddly when they are tired and love to snuggle close. Kitten are playful and fun but do require their own space at times to get acquainted with their new home. Puppies need to be house trained and depending on what method you use to do this it can be a long rather frustrating process. Kittens house train rather quickly with a litter box and once they learn almost never have accidents. Puppies will chew on almost anything they can get their teeth on until they learn. Kittens will scratch on things until they are either declawed or disciplined enough. Anytime you get a baby animal there is going to be a lot of work and time involved until they are trained.

Their personalities

Cats and dogs both have their pros and cons. Unlike cats dogs are very easy to train to do tricks and skills that can incorporate more in your daily life. If you like to be outdoor having a dog would be great for you because dogs love to be outside and get to run around. Cats on the other hand do better inside where they are contained and safe. If you choose to get a cat they are great lazy buddies.

One thing to always consider when getting a pet are the changes you have to make to your home, whether this be changing habits or having to remove items. One of things a lot of pet owner complain about when getting a new pet is their security system constantly being triggered by their cat or dog. I choose Smith Monitoring a company that provides Conroe home security and is a leader in home security Dallas, as my home security provider for this reason. With their state of the art technology animals do not trip the security alarms.
